How to Find the Meaning of Your Life

If you want to know the meaning of your life you can find it inside yourself. However, you can’t discover what’s inside yourself when you’re depleted. The first step to joyous meaning is some deep body and soul nourishment.
Get some herbs. Start with something very simple like oatstraw, nettles, and licorice root or lavender. You can order from Mountain Rose Herbs. You can also get some from a local herb shop but watch for quality. Mountain Rose will ask you to order by weight. It only takes a small amount of each so don’t worry about needing to order a large quantity unless you want to keep it handy.
When you’re ready to start you’ll need your herbs, a glass jar with a lid and some boiling water. That’s it.
Then get a copy of the movie Harold and Maude.
Put some water on to boil. Follow the instructions for making your own infusion. After you pour the boiling water on the herbs and cap the jar, watch the movie.
When the movie is done strain your tea. You can reheat it to drink it. That’s probably best in the winter time. If you do this in the summer you may want to chill it. Either way it will taste yummy.
When you have your tea ready go outside, weather permitting. If it’s cold try bundling up. Maude would not let a little snow stop her. If it’s just too bad to go outside, at least find a plant or some other part of nature to be near. A rock will do.
Once outside, if you are somewhere near water, that is wonderful. If not, find a TREE. Sit down. If you have a phone with you, turn it off. Simply wait. Drink your infusion.
Let the joy from the movie and nourishment from the infusion wash over you. Your mind may race. Let it. Just sit. Sink into the feeling of enjoyment. See the tree or water in front of you. Feel free to talk to the tree or the water (or the rock or plant if you’re inside).
Let your mind think of what you most enjoy in your life. Do you have any inspiration? A talent? What is your genius? Is there something only *you* can do in this world? The things that move you most connect you to your purpose. If something comes easily, you can be sure it’s the reason you are here.
If your mind feels confused try not to wrestle with it. Relax.
Feel free to ask the tree or the water what it has to tell you. You may be surprised at the answer.
By now you may have an inkling of why you are here. If not, relax. There is no need to worry. The answer will come soon. Feel free to sit and enjoy this moment for as long as you like.
If you do feel stressed or want to hurry up this process you can try doing some writing to help you along. Steve Pavlina has an excellent method that he says takes about twenty minutes. It may take a bit longer than that.
The first step to finding the meaning of your life is connecting to your own heart. You will have done that by now. The meaning is right there for you. If you do feel confusion remember the wise words of John Lennon, “There’s nowhere you can be that isn’t where you’re meant to be.” If you are in confusion it’s the perfect place to be. The meaning of your life is contained in the puzzle of your confusion. The puzzle is a beautiful package to unwrap so the confusion is just a beautiful friend.
Know that the Spirit of Maude is always with you and you are connected to it. You can nourish yourself with joy and with the plants anytime.
