Literary Nourishment

I recently had a burst of inspiration and started a round of what I’m now calling literary nourishment.
I decided to re-read my favorite books of all time just to cheer and energize myself. Why not?
I started with David James Duncan’s The Brothers K, progressed to Rick Borsten’s The Great Equalizer, and am currently busy with John Irving’s Cider House Rules. I may go next to Harper Lee’s classic To Kill a Mockingbird, though the movie is so thoroughly delightful that I may take another turn instead.
The question to you, Maude fans, is, “what are your all time favorite books?”
Maude answers:
“There are so many to choose from, and of course so many of them are dear friends. I don’t think I can go naming names at this stage. Let’s just say there’s plenty to choose from and no time like the present to get started.”
Marlene asks:
“I have noticed a certain volume that you always carry in your pocketbook. Would you tell us what that is?”
Maude answers:
“Well, you’ve got me there. I’ll tell you, it’s Trout Fishing in America. I never go anywhere without it. You never when you’re going to need Trout Fishing in America and you never know when Trout Fishing in America will show up. It’s always a good idea to have it in your pocket.”
There you go Maude fans. We invite you to spend a few minutes thinking about your all time favorite books and do yourself a favor, take another cruise through your favorite old literary neighborhood.

I recently re-read Mists of Avalon. I think that will always be one of many favorites of mine.
Am thinking about re-reading Shogun.

Hey Lee! This is inspirational. I just hit a bit of a frustrating time in my life but continuing on this theme, in exasperation as a retreat from daily life, I picked Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance off my shelf last night. It spoke perfectly to my condition.
It’s interesting how the lessons and beauties of old cherished books speak just as loudly then as now. I wonder did I learn anything when I read this before?? I’m so glad to be reading it again.
